Hailey Bieber called her parents to ask if marrying Justin Bieber was 'crazy': 'It all happened really fast'
Justin and Hailey Bieber are pulling back the curtain on their relationship for the first time since their reunion and surprising engagement in the summer of 2018, and explaining how their quick trip to the altar was meant to be.
“It all happened really fast and kind of all at once, but him and I have known each other for so long that there was a part of it that didn’t feel scary,” Hailey said during the fourth episode of Justin’s YouTube docu-series Seasons. “It’s just such a big life decision that it was just, it was so much emotion all at one time.”
The 10-part series, which premiered on Monday, is giving fans a look into Justin’s life over the past few years of his fame — with one of the most notable events being his wedding to Hailey, which the couple spoke candidly about.
“Since I was young, I always wanted to be married. I always wanted a family. That was always high on my list,” Justin explained. “But I didn’t know it would happen, so I’m really pumped about it. I’m really happy about it. And I have the sickest chick in the game. She’s so awesome.”
The two were first linked romantically back in 2015 and had been broken up for two years before re-kindling their relationship in May 2018. However, it quickly turned into something more meaningful than speculated when Justin proposed just two months later.
“I remember calling my parents when we decided to get married and I said, ‘This is the time I need you to stop me from doing something crazy if you think this is a bad idea.’” Hailey revealed. “Cause in my heart I knew that it’s what I wanted to do but I was like, just tell me right now if you think, well, woah, just relax and take a breath and think about this and see how you feel in like 24 hours or a week or something. And they were like, ‘Honestly, we think that this is meant to be for you and we know that this is what you want, so we trust you.’ And I was like, alright.”
Hailey went on to say that Justin “was the first person I ever had real feelings for,” which indicated to her that he would have a special place in her heart, regardless of the nature of their relationship. Now, even after their courthouse marriage in 2018 and their September 2019 wedding, Hailey admitted that she still gets butterflies around her husband.
“I think there’s always a little aspect of excitement that should be there and nerves that should be there when you’re romantically involved with somebody, especially if it’s your person and it’s the right person for you,” she said. “He still makes me a little nervous sometimes. Like I blush and I get a little bit cheesy. Can’t help it.”
As for Hailey’s impact on Justin’s creative process for his upcoming album, the model joked about the difficulties of being his “muse,” while Justin and his team pointed out just how integral she is to the new music.
“Her as an inspirational force in his life, I think it just gives more depth to his performance on the songs when she’s in the studio too,” Justin’s friend and creative director, Ryan Good, said. “They’re recording this album together and I think it’s fun for them both to do and I think it’s really fun for him to actually have someone here with him.”
And beyond having fun, Justin explained that Hailey provides him with what he needs most: stability.
“Being able to spend my life with someone and know that there’s always that person to go back to and always, I get to share every moment with and get to share my life with...It just makes it so much more rewarding,” Justin said. “Just the idea of stability is something that I really never had growing up and it’s something that I always really wanted.”
