Haitians share opinions about Trump during Conan O'Brien's visit to Haiti
Conan O’Brien traveled to Haiti after Donald Trump reportedly made offensive remarks about the country. O’Brien plans to air a special about Haiti on Jan. 27. But on Monday night, he gave fans a preview of what’s to come.
O’Brien felt it would only be fair for the people of Haiti to voice their opinions of Trump, because he had such nice things to say about them. Doing the man-on-the-street bit, Haitians took jabs at Trump about his insults.
Speaking French, one man said “Mr. Trump, please come visit Haiti. Because everytime you leave your country, you make America great again.” While another man joked, “We have beautiful golf courses here, Mr. President. Please come cheat on them.”
Trump reportedly said he would prefer Norwegian immigrants over Haitian immigrants. But when Conan spoke with a Norwegian in Haiti, she didn’t seem too keen about taking the president’s invitation. She said, “President Trump, I am from Norway, and I live in Haiti. I would like to immigrate to the U.S.A. after 2020.”
And while many of the opinions by Haitian were negative, there were also some positive ones. One woman said, “I want to send a message of love to the leader of America. Oprah, we love you!”
The Conan Haiti special airs Saturday, Jan. 27, at 10 p.m. on TBS.
