Halle Berry Files For Sole Custody Of Son, Accuses Ex Of Neglecting Child’s Educational Needs
Halle Berry and her ex-husband, Olivier Martinez are in a rocky custody battle over their 10-year-old son, Maceo. The Losing Isaiah A-lister is now seeking sole custody of their child, despite the former spouses already splittling Maceo’s time between the two of them.
According to sources, Berry has accused Martinez of having “turbulent and detrimental behavior” that is negatively impacting their son. She’s also claimed that the S.W.A.T. actor has been neglecting Maceo’s educational needs and prioritizing his “soccer activities” instead.
Reportedly, court filings state that the 58-year-old star has “fought for tutoring, an educational assessment, and finding an environment suitable to Maceo’s needs,” but Martinez has refused to hire a tutor due to schedule conflicts with soccer.
“Because of Respondent’s opposition to any interventions whatsoever for years and because of Respondent’s prioritizing soccer activities over Maceo’s educational and psychological well-being, Maceo’s educational and behavioral challenges worsened, and he continued to fall further behind in school,” the legal filing reportedly states.
Berry and Martinez married in 2013 and welcomed Maceo, before separating two years later in 2015. Their divorce was finalized last year, after an eight year battle.
In their settlement, the Oscar winner was reportedly ordered to pay Martinez a hefty “$8,000 a month in child support and an additional 4.3 percent of all income she receives above $2,000,000 to cover 100 percent of private school and extracurricular fees, as well as all health expenses.”
The former couple met on the set of their film Dark Tide in 2010. Berry and Martinez only share son, Maceo, as she has an older daughter from a previous marriage with Gabriel Aubry.
