Halle Berry puts marriage rumors to rest, says she was 'just having some fun' with Van Hunt
Contrary to the Internet's belief, Halle Berry isn't married – she was just having "fun."
On New Year's Day, Berry, 55, had people thinking she was a newlywed after sharing a pair of photos from her tropical vacation with her Grammy Award-winning musician boyfriend Van Hunt, 51. "Well, IT'S OFFICIAL," Berry captioned an Instagram post of the two kissing in what appeared to be a chapel.
A second photo featured the two embracing with a banner of text over their selfie that read: "It's 2022."
But on Sunday, Berry set the record straight.
"We were just having some New Year's Day fun!" she captioned a new selfie of her and Hunt. "People clearly don't swipe as much as we thought they did."
Berry also thanked fans and fellow celebrity friends who congratulated them on the made-up marriage. "It really touched our hearts," she joked.
"Now it's OFFICIAL, the internet is no longer undefeated," Berry concluded her post, adding the hashtags "#nomoreswipes4me" and "#Januaryfoolsday."
Dwayne Johnson was among the many celebrities to congratulate the couple, writing in her Instagram comments: "Congrats you two!!! Beautiful!!"
Alyssa Milano, Ava DuVernay, Octavia Spencer, Megan Good and Taraji P. Henson also congratulated Berry and Hunt in the comments.
One fan on Instagram who paid attention to the carousel function on the social media app commented Saturday: "You got us good until I swiped right."
Her "wedding" to Hunt would have marked her fourth marriage. Berry has previously been married to actor Olivier Martinez (2013 to 2018), singer Eric Benét (2001 to 2005) and baseball player David Justice (1993 to 1997).

Berry and Van Hunt met in early 2020, when they were set up by a friend.
"When we found each other, I was really done with relationships," Berry told USA TODAY in November. "For three months, all we did was talk on the phone. Just hours talking or we would write letters. … We didn't FaceTime. We didn't do a Zoom."
The two took the relationship public in August 2020. In April, they attended the Oscars together.
"I'm 100% myself, whether he's with me or not. And he's 100% himself when I'm around or when I’m not. So this I know is the recipe," Berry said. "This is what had been lacking before – both people had to change significantly to make it work. And now we just really are good together and connect, being exactly who we are."
Receiving her career achievement award at the Celebration of Black Cinema & Television in December, Berry gave Hunt a shout-out from the podium.
"You know I finally found love this year everybody. Even though you all have been on this painful journey with me," Berry said. "You watched me fail and fail and fail. And besides directing my first movie, I also found the love of my life and I know it's true and this is how I know it's true."
