Halle Berry Recalls Brutal Injuries She’s Endured In 30-Year Career
Halle Berry recalled all of the most brutal injuries she has endured as a veteran in the entertainment industry. During a joint interview with Mark Wahlberg, her new co-star in Netflix’s film The Union, the two stars compared their on-set injuries. The iconic bombshell went first, detailing an extensive list of wounds and dislocations and even admitting that she’s been “knocked out three times.”
“Got an arm broken, broke ribs twice, two ribs one time, three ribs another time, broke a tailbone, broke two toes and finger,” the 57-year-old actress said before flashing the finger in question—her middle finger. On the other hand, Wahlberg hasn’t suffered as many injuries in front of the camera, jokingly stating that major damage was done to his ego on countless occasions.
Elsewhere in the interview, Berry opened up about her extensive list of fighting styles she has managed to learn and skills she’s acquired. “Well, I’ve learned jiu-jitsu, some muay thai, kickboxing, taekwondo, and I learned how to shoot. I learned capoeira for Catwoman,” she added. But Berry didn’t stop there. The actress had a moment when filming Catwoman that led to her falling 60 feet after a light swung and knocked her off a wire. She called the moment “dumbest moviemaking moment of all time.”
Halle opened up about her time on the infamous DC Comics film on its 20th anniversary. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in July, the Ohio native detailed how the critically panned film didn’t break her. However, she had to carry that negative criticism and “failure” on her own.
“I felt like it was Halle Berry’s failure, but I didn’t make it alone,” she expressed. “All these years, I’ve absolutely carried it. I didn’t love [the backlash]. Being a Black woman, I’m used to carrying negativity on my back, fighting, being a fish swimming upstream by myself. I’m used to defying stereotypes and making a way out of no way.”
