Halle Berry Reveals Real-life Inspiration Behind Viral Hairstyle From ‘The Call’ at ‘Never Let Go’ Screening
At a recent screening of her movie thriller “Never Let Go,” Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry opened up about one of her most discussed on-screen looks from a decade ago — the wig she wore in the 2013 film “The Call.” During a special screening on Tuesday, where fans were clad in spoof wigs, Berry revealed that the viral hairstyle was not her creation, but instead inspired by a real-life 911 operator she met during research for the role.
“I didn’t just make this abomination up,” Berry shared candidly at the event. “The woman that walked me through the call center explained what it was to be a 911 operator, and had this hairdo, so I stole it from her.”

Berry’s look at the screening, while not as polarizing as her “The Call” wig, was still striking. She opted for a loose snakeskin-print blouse paired with high-waisted black leather pants, grounding the outfit with classic black pointed-toe pumps.
While “The Call” wig may be one of her most talked-about looks, it isn’t the only statement hairstyle Berry has worn onscreen. In the 2004 superhero film “Catwoman,” Berry sported a sleek, cropped cut that became a hallmark of the character, while in “Die Another Day” (2002), her portrayal of Bond girl Jinx was completed with short, spiked hair that accentuated her bold and daring persona. More recently, her role in “John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum” (2019) featured a longer, tousled look that emphasized the character’s gritty and intense storyline.
Though the wig in “The Call” gained attention for its unusual look, Berry’s onscreen hairstyles have consistently played a significant role in shaping her characters, contributing to their visual impact and memorability.
Berry’s latest film is a high-stakes thriller that follows a mother determined to rescue her kidnapped child. The movie, directed by Howard J. Ford, puts gripping scenes to the forefront that focus on maternal strength with Berry playing the lead and delivering a strong performances in the action-thriller genre.
For the red carpet premiere that same evening, Berry opted to embrace the metallic trend wearing a dress from Tamara Ralph’s spring 2024 couture collection. The halter maxidress was crafted from fine crystal mesh chevron, featuring stacked metallic tones and embellished with crystal chains.
