Hallmark Recalls 4,500 Candles After Reports of Glass Jars Shattering
If you received a candle over the holidays, you may want to check the label.
On Dec. 20, Hallmark recalled more than 4,500 Frosted Balsam candles after reports of the glass jars shattering and posing a fire and laceration hazards, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The Frosted Balsam candle has notes of balsam, spruce and holly, and features three wicks. It sits in a clear glass jar decorated with an image of a snow-covered pine cone and has a metal lid on top.
Although the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission received 6 reports of the glass jar breaking and resulting in fire damage to nearby items, no injuries have been reported.
Consumers who bought a Frosted Basalm candle — sold exclusively at Norman’s Hallmark stores in New Jersey and Pennsylvania — should stop using it immediately and return it to receive a refund and $10 Hallmark gift card.

This isn’t the first time a mass-manufactured candle has been recalled due to reports of the glass cracking. In December 2016, Yankee Candle Company announced a voluntary recall of six products in its Luminous Candle Collection.

“We have recently received consumer feedback regarding our new Luminous Collection candles which has indicated that when the candle is lit, the glass jar may crack, posing a possible laceration hazard,” read a statement at the time on YankeeCandle.com. “Out of an abundance of caution and a firm commitment to safety, we have decided to request the immediate return of all Luminous Collection candles.”
