Halloween is around the corner, which means it’s the season for a fright fest. Netflix has a haunted horde of scary movies, from classic slasher flicks to spooky supernatural tales to bite-your-finger-nails suspense thrillers. There are also plenty of kid-friendly Halloween movies, which you can learn about here. And you can watch them all from the comfort of your own home.

Scream
The 1996 slasher film was an instant horror classic and helped revitalize the genre in the years after its release. After a memorable opening scene with Drew Barrymore, the story follows a high school student (Neve Campbell) who is hunted by a mysterious masked killer known as Ghostface.
Carrie
The first of what would become many adaptations of Stephen King’s work, 1976’s Carrie is one of the most influential horror films of all time. It’s anchored by an Oscar-nominated performance from Sissy Spacek, as the titular teen who transforms from bullied to ballistic thanks to her telekinetic powers.
The Sixth Sense
“I see the dead people.” The iconic line is just the start of this twist-filled supernatural thriller, which stars Haley Joel Osment as the boy who can talk to the dead and Bruce Willis as the child psychologist who counsels him. M. Night Shymalan’s suspenseful direction will get you jumping out of your seat.
Insidious
The first movie in the Insidious franchise, co-created by James Wan and Leigh Whannell, introduces Josh and Renai Lambert (Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne), whose young son enters a comatose state and becomes a vessel for a demon. They call in a team of demonologists led by Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye) to help rescue their son from the evil spirits.
The Conjuring
James Wan’s other horror franchise centers on paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga), who are called in by a New England family to rid their home of a menacing presence.
Bird Box
In case you didn’t see any of the many memes about this 2018 Netflix original film, all you need to know is that a mysterious and malevolent force has infiltrated society and if you look at it, you die. Sandra Bullock stars as a woman who seeks to protect herself and two young children from it — all while wearing blindfolds.
Scary Movie 2
The parody sequel spoofs supernatural scary movies of the past, including The Exorcist, Poltergeist, and Hollow Man. The story follows a group of teens who visit a haunted house; hilarious horror hijinks ensue.
Truth or Dare
Blumhouse’s 2018 flick turns a harmless game among college students on spring break into a deadly nightmare, when something (or something) decides to punish anyone who tells a lie or refuses a dare.
The Witch
Set in 1630s colonial New England, this supernatural thriller centers on a Puritan family who are banished to a remote farm at the edge of an ominous forest. When unsettling events, like a child’s disappearance, begin to take place, the daughter is accused of witchcraft — tearing the family apart.
The Babysitter
Part slasher flick, part dark comedy, the 2017 Netflix original answers the age-old question: What does the babysitter get up to when the kid goes to sleep? Unfortunately, as Cole Johnson (Judah Lewis) finds out, she and her demonic cult friends go on a killing spree.
Life After Beth
Halloween movies can be romantic, too, as this semi-dark, semi-sweet indie film shows. Zach (Dane DeHaan) is devastated by the death of his girlfriend Beth (Aubrey Plaza). But then she rises from the dead and they get a second chance at love, but her zombie status may be a relationship dealbreaker.
Little Evil
Blending families is tough — especially if your stepson may be the Antichrist. The dark comedy follows regular guy Gary (Adam Scott), who marries Samantha (Evangeline Lilly) and later discovers her son Lucas is the spawn of Satan.
Hush
When a killer comes for you, what if you can’t cry out for help? That’s the premise of this Blumhouse thriller, which centers on a deaf and mute woman named Maddie (Kate Siegel) who lives in seclusion in the woods. A psychotic man targets her, setting off a terrifying cat-and-mouse game with Maddie fighting for survival.
