‘Halloween’: What Could Have Been
As Halloween approaches, Yahoo SuperFan is taking a look at the classic horror flick Halloween and the changes that were made in preproduction that shaped how it became the movie it is today.
For instance, the mask of Michael Myers was originally envisioned as a sad-faced clown. But instead, the emotionless face was fabricated from a William Shatner Star Trek mask, painted white with the eyebrows removed and the eyeholes cut open.
Get this, the original title was The Babysitter Murders, and the events were supposed to take place over the course of several days. Budget issues forced producers to make everything happen in one day, cutting back on wardrobe and location costs. And of course, what better day for a bunch of scary stuff to happen than Halloween?
And while Jamie Lee Curtis wasn’t the first choice for the role of Laurie Strode, it was her lineage that earned her the part. Once director John Carpenter realized she was the daughter of Janet Leigh, star of the 1960 classic Psycho, it was a done deal.
