New ‘Hand That Rocks The Cradle’ Movie Eyes Mary Elizabeth Winstead To Star Opposite Maika Monroe
EXCLUSIVE: Mary Elizabeth Winstead is in negotiations to star opposite Maika Monroe in 20th Century’s new take on the 1992 thriller The Hand That Rocks the Cradle. Michelle Garza Cervera will direct the pic, with Micah Bloomberg penning the script.
The original film starred Rebecca De Mornay and Annabella Sciorra and follows a woman, played by De Mornay, who after her sex-offender husband gets caught in the act and kills himself, embarks on a mission of vengeance against one of her husband’s victims and the woman’s family. Monroe will step into the role made famous by De Mornay, while Winstead will play the role originated by Sciorra.

The original screenplay was written by Amanda Silver and the film was executive produced by Rick Jaffa; the duo later became the writing team of Jaffa/Silver (Jurassic Park, Planet of the Apes).
Ted Field will produce the new film through Radar Pictures along with Michael Schaefer and Mike Larocca, who will produce through Department M. Michael Napoliello and Maria Frisk are overseeing for Radar.
Winstead is coming off her hit Disney+ Star Wars TV series Ahsoka, in which she stars opposite Rosario Dawson. She also recently earned strong reviews for her Showtime limited series A Gentleman in Moscow where she stars opposite Ewan McGregor.
