Sandler and Netflix teased a photo from the sequel’s wardrobe showcasing the Boston Bruins ice hockey team jersey the actor wore in the film.
Happy Gilmore 2 is a sequel to the 1996 comedy directed by Dennis Dugan. The film follows Happy Gilmore, an unsuccessful ice hockey player who discovers he has a talent for golf. Happy starts competing in golf tournaments to gather enough money to stop the foreclosure of his grandmother’s house.
Netflix greenlit a sequel earlier this year and Sandler hinted that Travis Kelce was going to have a cameo in the new film.
“We have a nice something for Travis,” Sandler said on The Tonight Show last month. “He’s gonna come by.”
He continued, “He’s a very nice guy. You guys would love him in real life. What a big, handsome guy. Funny and cool as hell. He’s a stud and he’s so funny.”
Sandler, who is reportedly co-writing the script with Tim Herlihy, also teased that pro golfers would make cameos throughout the film.
Universal Pictures released the film, directed by Dennis Dugan, which grossed over $82 million worldwide and still holds a cult following. The original film also starred Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen, Frances Bay, Carl Weathers, Allen Covert, Kevin Nealon, Peter Kelamis, Richard Kiel, Dennis Dugan, Joe Flaherty, and Jared Snellenberg. Happy Gilmore also included cameos by Lee Trevino, Verne Lundquist, Mark Lye, Ben Stiller, and Bob Barker.
