‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’ Turns 15: See the Cast Then and Now
Today marks the 15th anniversary of the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. The first film in the Harry Potter franchise — based on the novels by J.K. Rowling — became a smash hit overnight. The big-screen adaptations chronicled the life of the young wizards who captivated millions across the globe. Join us as we take a walk down memory lane, and see what your favorite characters have been up to since the final film was released in 2011.
Daniel Radcliffe’s world was turned upside down when he landed the main role at the young age of 11. And when he wasn’t filming Harry Potter movies, Radcliffe was busy displaying his acting chops in stage plays in London’s West End and on Broadway. This year, the 27-year-old starred in the indie film Swiss Army Man.
Meanwhile, Emma Watson rose to fame as Hermione Granger. The role also happened to be her first professional acting gig. In 2014, she was appointed a U.N. Women Goodwill Ambassador. Watson is dedicated to empowering young women through education and fair trade. Look for the now 26-year-old actress next as Belle in Disney’s live-action movie Beauty and the Beast in 2017.
Rupert Grint, who played Harry Potter’s best friend, Ron Weasley, has taken a more low-key approach to his acting career. Grint, 28, has appeared in independent films like Driving Lessons and Cherrybomb. He is set to star in and executive-produce Snatch, a TV series based on Guy Ritchie’s movie of the same name.
