Per Fox’s official logline, “T.K. and Carlos’ marriage is put to the test when Carlos becomes obsessed with solving his father’s murder.”

In a September 2024 interview with TV Insider, co-showrunner Rashad Raisani revealed some of what’s to come this season for T.K. and Carlos. “Carlos’s father’s murder is a thing that Carlos is not giving up. It is the central driving force in Carlos’ life,” Raisani revealed.

Thankfully, there will be closure for Carlos (and fans). Raisani shared, “And there’s no way we’re going to end the series without giving that poor guy some answers. So there will be some answers at the end of the day on that.”

The co-showrunner also said it was important to be realistic about Carlos and T.K.’s marriage. “Even though these guys are so wonderful to each other and they’re so handsome, life isn’t perfect no matter who you are and everybody has real struggles that affect even great relationships,” he explained. “And the true strength of a relationship isn’t the absence of challenges and problems, it’s how you grapple with them and encounter them and if they make your relationship stronger or weaker.”

Raisani continued, “And so for Carlos, this burden of his dad’s murder is going to sit there and take up a lot of oxygen in the room and T.K., who is an incredibly supportive husband, is gonna try and be patient and graceful and allow Carlos to have that space. But at a certain point, he’s got to advocate for them to have a future together, and that’s part of what you were talking about with Jonah.”

He added, “I like to think that little boy, in some ways, represents the future of their relationship and Gabriel’s murder represents the past of their relationship, and there’s gonna be a tension between those two things and that’s gonna be their central dynamic this year, is that one person is struggling to get answers in the past and the other person is struggling to move on and build a future, which I think is a very relatable human experience.”

In an interview with Variety, Raisani shared more of what to expect with the Tarlos relationship. “I like to think the joys that Carlos and T.K. are going to have are going to come from an even deeper place now, because their world has had some real pain in it — Carlos’ father getting murdered — and that also creates weight on their relationship.”

He admitted, “As much as I want it to always feel like it’s a light, carefree, problem-free existence that they have, which they totally deserve, in the real world, life doesn’t work that way. Even when you’re in an incredibly loving, committed relationship, life still finds ways to kick you in the stomach, and sometimes that can affect your relationship.”

The couple will weather the storm, however, and fans will be satisfied with how it plays out. Raisani shared that what “makes their relationship so beautiful is that it keeps emerging stronger from these challenges and from these pressures.” He added, “And I hope that the joys that you get when you see these guys persevere through some of the things they’re going to go through as a couple, that it will play on an even more beautiful level than it would be to see them be completely easygoing and be able to just enjoy each other’s company without any real sweat from the real world.”
