Hear Darren Criss's rendition of 'Proud of Your Boy' from Broadway's 'Aladdin'

“Proud of Your Boy” didn’t make the final cut when Disney’s Aladdin came out in 1992. The song by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, however, has found its place in the musical now on Broadway, and will get even more exposure come Sunday when Glee‘s Darren Criss performs it as part of ABC’s special Backstage with Disney on Broadway: Celebrating 20 Years.

Criss, accompanying himself on guitar in his own arrangement, pares the song down from its more orchestral Broadway version, and you can listen to Criss’s version ahead of time here. Don’t worry, though, the ballad is still beautifully plaintive.

The hour-long special, about Disney’s productions on the Great White Way, is hosted by Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and also features performances from Elton John, Nashville‘s Sam Palladio and Clare Bowen, Broadway Mary Poppins star Ashley Brown, and Adam Jacobs, who takes on the role of Aladdin on stage.

Update: The audio has been removed due to rights issues.
