Heather Locklear hospitalized after threatening to kill herself: Reports
Heather Locklear has been hospitalized for a psychiatric evaluation. On Sunday, the actress’s mother called police after Locklear threatened to kill herself. E! News reported that the Ventura County Fire and Sheriff’s Departments in California responded to her home.
According to dispatch audio obtained by TMZ, the operator revealed that the caller’s daughter was trying to “hurt herself and looking for a gun to shoot herself. She does not have access to any weapons.” The operator described Locklear as “agitated and violent.” The news outlet reported that Locklear’s parents went to their daughter’s house after the Melrose Place star sounded distressed. When they arrived, Locklear allegedly got violent, hitting her father and choking her mother — who eventually called 911.
Locklear’s attorney did not immediately respond to Yahoo Entertainment’s request for comment.
In February, officers responded to a disturbance call at the actress’s home after she allegedly hit her boyfriend. Domestic violence charges were eventually dropped, but she still faced four counts of misdemeanor battery on a police officer and one charge of resisting or obstructing a police officer. She pleaded not guilty. The actress was banned from owning a firearm in the wake of the incident — she apparently has one registered in her name.
Locklear, 56, entered rehab in March following the event. “Heather is in treatment for addiction,” a friend of the actress told People. “Everyone hopes she gets well, that she gets better. … Addiction is obviously a strong disease and as much as friends and family who love her and want her to get better and be happy, no one can do the work for her. Hopefully she is getting the help she needs.”
Locklear has struggled with depression and addiction for the better part of a decade. In 2008, someone claiming to be the star’s doctor called 911 alleging she was suicidal. Three months later, she checked in to a treatment center for anxiety and depression. After a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge (she crashed into a no-parking sign on a public street and fled the scene), Locklear checked in to a 30-day rehab program for prescription pills. The actress has also reportedly battled alcohol issues over the years. She went to rehab at the beginning of 2017 for undisclosed reasons. Locklear returned a year later.
