Heather Locklear reportedly placed on extended psychiatric hold
Heather Locklear’s psychiatric hold has reportedly been extended for further evaluation.
The Melrose Place star was hospitalized Wednesday and placed on a mandatory 72-hour hold; however, doctors determined Locklear needed additional treatment, according to TMZ. Radar Online claims she has now been placed on a “5250,” which allows doctors to evaluate a patient for up to two weeks. It’s possible Locklear may be released earlier.
Since Locklear, 57, was in the hospital over Thanksgiving, ex-husband Richie Sambora changed his holiday plans to be with their 21-year-old daughter, Ava.
“He was worried about Ava, so he came home on Thanksgiving,” a friend of the former couple told People. “They had an amazing Thanksgiving and had a private chef there so they could be together one-on-one.”
“They had a great meal and got caught up,” continued the insider, who noted Sambora was supposed to be in New Jersey, but “he did not want Ava to be alone on Thanksgiving.”
Locklear has had a tumultuous year. In February, she was arrested after a dispute with her boyfriend, former high-school sweetheart Chris Heisser, turned violent. She was charged with a felony count of domestic violence and three counts of misdemeanor battery against police officers who responded to the emergency call from her brother about fighting between the two.
In June, Locklear was arrested for battery against a police officer after her mother summoned officers to the actress’s home for fear her daughter was going to kill herself. The Dynasty alum immediately sought treatment for substance abuse and her mental health, completing a three-month program in October.
Upon Locklear’s release from the hospital, TMZ reports the actress will continue treatment, but the exact plan is up in the air. She apparently wants to remain at home, while those close to her want her to check in to another facility. Ultimately, the decision will be Locklear’s.
