Here's how to celebrate Transgender Day of Visibility in Des Moines
International Transgender Day of Visibility is celebrated each year on March 31, honoring the joy and resilience of trans and non-binary people everywhere, according to the Human Rights Campaign.
There are celebrations, festivals and drag shows alike across Des Moines this weekend. Here are a few to check out:
Central Iowa Trans Lives Festival
This fourth annual all-ages festival honors Transgender Day of Visibility and showcases the creative work of transgender, genderqueer, non-binary and gender-nonconforming adults and youth from around Iowa.
Visual art and crafts will be for sale, along with food trucks and booths, live music, poetry, literature, dance, drag, and comedy performances. The festival is open to everyone, and admission and parking are free.
When: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., March 30

Transcend: A Trans Day of Visibility Celebration
Xbk Live is hosting a Trans Day of Visibility celebration and show. There will be featured performances by transgender and queer artists, as well as free gender-affirming clothes given away by Common Love DSM. Tickets can be purchased at xbklive.com/seetickets.
When: Doors at 5 p.m. and show at 6 p.m., March 31,

Transgender Day of Visibility Benefit Show at the Garden
The Garden welcomes folks on March 31 for a benefit show celebrating and honoring Transgender Day of Visibility, featuring transgender performers from all across Iowa. Table reservations can be made online and all reservation fees will be donated. There will be drink and food specials all night long.
