Here’s Your Primer on the Return of “Slow Horses”

Listen up, agents: Slow Horses is back, which means it’s time to reunite with our favorite MI5 rejects. Season 4 of the Apple TV+ thriller returned on September 4, bringing a fresh round of chaos and explosions—and, of course, mysteries.
If you need a refresher, Slow Horses is inspired by Mick Herron’s novels of the same name. The series follows a group of dysfunctional detectives who work for Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman), a notorious intelligence officer. Last season, we learned that a group of treacherous operatives had infiltrated MI5, posing a threat to Great Britain.
That obviously became an issue for Lamb, whose job is to protect England from crime and keep his team safe in the process. In season 4, one of Lamb’s operatives, River Cartwright (Jack Lowden), is sent to France—where he and his grandfather David (Jonathan Pryce) become the target of a new enemy.
In addition to Lowden, Pryce, and Oldman, the cast of season 4 includes Saskia Reeves, Kristin Scott Thomas, Rosalind Eleazar, Christopher Chung, Kadiff Kirwan, Aimee-Ffion Edwards, Tom Brooke, Hugo Weaving, Joanna Scanlan, Ruth Bradley, and James Callis.
In an interview with USA Today, Oldman spoke about what viewers can expect from this season. “It’s a season that becomes more personal [for Lamb]; it’s now very close to home,” he said. “We’ve now got a villain who is directly connected to influencing the Slow Horses.”

When Does the Next Episode of Slow Horses Premiere?
Apple TV+ released the first episode of Slow Horses season 4, on September 4—reintroducing the world of Detective Lamb and his ragtag crew. This season features six episodes, with a new episode dropping each week until the finale on October 9.
