BuzzFeed
6 min read

It only took, well, five seasons and a seven-year time jump for Barchie to finally be a legit couple on Riverdale, but it's been absolutely worth the wait.

The CW

With the news that Riverdale's next season will be its last, we've gathered a ton of examples as to why Betty and Archie were always perfect for each other and why they NEED to end up together in the final season. Here are some moments that prove they should be endgame!

?? Obviously, massive spoilers ahead!!! ??

Note: Number 30 contains mentions of grooming.

1.First, when the show literally began with a Barchie endgame prophecy in the pilot:

Kevin says Betty and Archie aren't dating but they are endgame

This is the only time we will accept the use of "endgame" on this show.

The CW

2.When Archie called Betty his best friend, making it clear how important she is to him:

Archie tells Betty they're not just friends, they're best friends
The CW

3.When Archie told the story of how, when they were little, Betty tutored him every single day so he wouldn't get held back in school. And then, when Archie got a passing grade, he kissed her and asked her to marry him:

Archie tells Veronica the story of him kissing Betty and asking her to marry him in Season 1, Archie and Betty talk about how she tutored him in Season 3
The CW

And then they actually showed us the adorable scene in a flashback later:

4.When Betty told her mom she was never going to stop being friends with Archie, no matter how much she disapproved:

11.When they totally nailed the whole "fake dating" trope:

Seriously, is there any romance trope they CAN'T pull off?

The CW

12.When Betty realized how much Archie had always been there for her:

Archie: "I'm here for you, I always have been," Betty: "Yeah you have haven't you?" Then they kiss

Also, they didn't have to kiss here. Yes, it was during the whole "fake dating" arc, but they didn't think anyone was watching them here. They kissed because they wanted to. Plus, Archie literally told Betty he was "happy to do it again anytime."

Still not convinced? Don't take our word for it — KJ Apa talked about Barchie's relationship in a recent interview with Nerds of Color: "I’ve been really enjoying it. I think Lili [Reinhart]’s great. Who knows what endgame is, but I think Archie especially is enjoying his time with Betty, imagining kids with her, family, and a future."

KJ also said in an interview with TV Insider that, despite that Season 6 kiss between Veronica and Archie, he doesn't think a real BugVarchie reunion is in the cards. "I don't think that's going to happen, to be honest," he said. "Not this season."

Lili Reinhart also commented recently on Betty and Archie's relationship at Paley Fest: "They have a home with each other. It’s like coming back home.”

Finally, let us remind you that KJ has been rooting for Barchie since the very beginning. In his 2020 puppy interview with BuzzFeed, KJ said he thinks the idea of a Barchie endgame is "really cool." Here's the full interview:

In conclusion: Barchie endgame, please!!!
