A sequel to the Oregon cult classic "The Goonies" could be coming in 2026 or 2027, according to a recent report from The U.S. Sun.

The news outlet reported that production could begin next summer with a possible release date of 2026 or 2027.

The 1985 action-adventure movie set in Astoria was directed by Richard Donner from a screenplay by Chris Columbus based on a story by Steven Spielberg. It features actors Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Corey Feldman, Ke Huy Quan and Jeff Cohen.

A source told the Sun the major stars in the movie would most likely come back.

Rumors of a sequel have swirled around for decades.

The movie features a hunt through the Oregon Coast for a treasure hidden by pirates. The film was a commercial and critical success, grossing $125 million at the box office and being selected for the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress.

The movie prominently features several landmarks and homes in the Astoria area, which have now become popular spots for tourists.
