'Hey guys, wanna feel old?' Macaulay Culkin of 'Home Alone' turns 40, shocks Twitter
Believe it or not, Macaulay Culkin is 40.
Yes, you read that right.
The actor, who shot to fame at the age of 10 in the 1990 comedy "Home Alone," turned the big 4-0 on Wednesday, much to the surprise of Twitter.
"Hey guys, wanna feel old? I'm 40," the actor wrote. "You're welcome."
The news came as a shock to those who still remember Culkin from his "Home Alone" days, when he played the clever kiddo Kevin McCallister.
"Me having a great day and then finding out that Macaulay Culkin is 40 years old today and I'm getting old," tweeted Paul O'Sullivan from the band Greywind, along with a video of a man getting kicked by a horse.
"Who had Macaulay Culkin turns 40 on their apocalyptic 2020 bingo card?" wrote user @DarleneCox18.
"Dang... 40? ok.. time to log off..." wrote user @diane1261.
In a follow-up tweet, Culkin added: "It's my gift to the world: I make people feel old. I'm no longer a kid, that's my job."
The actor also joked about taking the birthday milestone as an opportunity to reinvent himself.
"Since I'm 40 I think it's about time to start my midlife crisis," he wrote. "I'm thinking of picking up surfing. Do you all have any suggestions?"
Macaulay Culkin is all grown up in 'Home Alone'-inspired Google holiday ad
Though many of his fans remember the star from his childhood roles, Culkin has been up to a lot since "Home Alone." He lent his voice to the show "Robot Chicken" from 2005 to 2010. In 2007, he starred in the dark comedy "Sex and Breakfast" and in 2006, he published the experimental, semi-autobiographical novel "Junior." He also made appearances on "The Jim Gaffigan Show" from 2015 to 2016.
Culkin reprised his role as McCallister in a 2018 Google Assistant holiday ad. The commercial followed a similar plot to the Christmas comedy, with Culkin waking up in an empty house alone – except for his Google Assistant, of course.
'Home Alone' reboot? Macaulay Culkin and the rest of Twitter react to the idea
Culkin returned for "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York," released in 1992. He did not appear in the next installments: "Home Alone 3" (1997), "Home Alone 4: Taking Back the House" (2002) and "Home Alone: The Holiday Heist" (2012). The latter two films premiered on TV.
