HGTV Fans Are Riled Up Over This 'Unsellable Houses' Design Decision

Unsellable Houses is back! The HGTV show stars sisters (and Rock the Block winners) Lyndsay Lamb and Leslie Davis, real estate agents who help Washington homeowners update their properties to maximize their resale value.

In the second episode of season five, the duo helps Robyn, a homeowner who needs some assistance after her house sat on the market for a year and a half. The home's layout presents a challenge, but Lyndsay and Leslie take issue with one particular design feature: The bedroom carpet.

Robyn has an emotional connection to the carpet, which has a bold floral pattern that Leslie estimates "99.6 percent of people" wouldn't like. Robyn explains that it was the first design decision she made on her own, and she plans on having the carpet removed and turned into an area rug in her new home.

Lyndsay says, "It's beautiful," and Leslie interrupts, "No, it's not, Lyndsay." Lyndsay clarifies, "It's beautiful for someone who has a very specific taste," and Leslie chimes in, "One person, her name is Robyn."

HGTV shared the clip on Instagram, and it was met with a flurry of opinions from fans. Many jumped to Robyn's defense, calling the look "beautiful" and "vintage."

  • "This is a beautiful carpet! I would never trust those designers!"

  • "If it brings her joy…then she can do whatever the heck she wants!!"

  • "OK if I walked in and saw that carpet, I would buy the house because of the carpet. I absolutely love it. ??"

  • "Oh my. Don't invalidate Robin's joy over her beloved carpet!"

  • "That very same carpet is in my mothers living room, And I was horrified when I went over and saw it after she had it installed."

Because the objective was to sell the house, the carpet was removed and the designers were thrilled to find hardwood floors underneath, which would certainly help with resale value. Lyndsay and Leslie reported that the home sold after just four days on the market for $15,000 over the list price.
