Hilary Duff Welcomes Baby No. 4 via Water Birth & Reveals Her Gender-Neutral Name Perfect for Spring
Hilary Duff’s family just got a little bigger! The How I Met Your Father star is officially a mom of 4 after welcoming her third baby girl with husband Matthew Koma earlier this month. The proud mom shared the news on Instagram today, revealing the first pictures of the baby girl and her spring-inspired, gender-neutral name.
“Townes Meadow Bair ?? , now we know why she made us wait so long … She was perfecting those Cheeks!” Duff wrote in her birth announcement, revealing that Townes was born on May 3. Townes Meadow is such a beautiful name! Townes is a traditionally masculine name that means “one who lived in a village,” per Nameberry, which compared it to names like “Hayes and Brooks and Banks and Rhodes.” BTW, Banks just happens to be the name of Duff’s 5-year-old daughter!

Duff is also mom to Mae James, 3, whose first name means “goddess of spring growth” in Roman mythology. James is a gender-neutral name, and one that Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds used for one of their daughters. The Lizzie McGuire alum is also mom to son Luca Cruz, 12, who she shares with ex Mike Comrie. (Luca means “light” and Cruz means “cross,” in case you’re wondering.)
Duff also shared several photos of her water birth on Instagram (which you can see HERE.) In the first one, she holds Townes on her chest while still in the tub. The baby girl as long dark hair and chunky cheeks, and she is absolutely adorable! In one photo, Duff leans forward to kiss her daughter while crying. In another, she kisses Koma while holding Townes in the tub. She also shared a close-up photo of Townes once she was all cleaned up with just a diaper on, looking adorably squishy.
In her caption, the Younger star wrote a sweet message to her daughter. “I Have been dreaming of holding you in my arms for months and the past 5 days of getting to know you, stare at you and smell you has been pure moments of magic.”
“We all love you like you’ve been here all along beauty,” she added.
Last week, Duff shared cute family photos with her bare baby bump on full display. In the first one wore a pink cropped shirt and white pants as she sat on the grass with Koma on one side of her and Luca on the other. Banks and Mae were on either end, both wearing pink to match their mama. She also shared several other photos of the cute family, captioning it, “Some random pics of the 5 of us before that changes foreverrrrr.”
Today, Koma shared the same water birth photos on his Instagram. “My literal warrior goddess of a wife gave birth to our beautiful Townes Meadow Bair at home on 5/3/24,” he sweetly captioned it. “She’s happy, healthy, chunky and looks like nobody in our genetic pool so if anyone knows of @hilaryduff’s whereabouts roughly 9 months ago to date, please reach out for a cash reward,” he joked.
He also shared a photo on his Instagram story of Banks holding her youngest sister, who is wrapped in a fuzzy pink blanket and snoozing away.
