Hit Songwriter Teddy Geiger Reveals He Is ‘Transitioning’
Hit songwriter Teddy Geiger, whose credits include four radio smashes with Shawn Mendes (“Stitches,” “Mercy,” “Treat You Better” and “Nothin’ Holding Me Back”) as well as songs written for or with DJ Snake, Tiesto and James Blunt, has announced that he is transitioning from male to female.
Posting on Instagram on Oct. 27, the 29-year-old wrote, “I am transitioning. … Love it or hate it, this is who I have been for a loooooong time.”
Recently, the hitmaker and sometime actor (Geiger has had roles on “The Royal Pains” and 2008 Rainn Wilson vehicle “The Rocker”) appeared at the Grammy Museum where he performed the song “Mercy” solo on piano and participated in a panel about songwriting. The Oct. 18 event also featured writers Oak Felder, Dave Bassett and Busbee.
Geiger was himself a major label artist back in 2006 when he released an album on Columbia Records and was swiftly labeled the next big thing. His debut album, “Underage Thinking,” reached No. 8 on the Billboard 200 albums chart, and featured the singles “For You I Will (Confidence)” and “These Walls,” but didn’t pick up momentum.
In 2013, he self-released “The Last Fears” through iTunes and Spotify.
