Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager win big at the Las Culturistas Culture Awards
TODAY with Hoda & Jenna took home a coveted award at the Las Culturistas Culture Awards.
On June 15, “Saturday Night Live” star Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers brought the annual Las Culturistas Culture Awards to Brooklyn.
Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager snagged one of the more than 100 awards of the evening, winning the TODAY Show Award for Excellence in the Morning.
Hoda and Jenna bested other nominees including:
Cold brew coffee
Fergie singing “Barracuda” on the TODAY plaza
Helios, god of the sun
Bird watching between 6 and 11 a.m.
While Hoda and Jenna did not attend the ceremony, they sent in a video to accept the award. In the clip, the hosting duo jumped up and down shouting, "We won!"
"We are so honored to win the TODAY Show Award for Excellence in the Morning," Hoda said. "They like us."
"You really, really like us," Jenna added.
They then thanked the voters.
"Love to all the readers, the publicists —" Jenna said.
"And the Kayteighs!" Hoda chimed in.
Hoda and Jenna were also nominated for Best Pair of People. However, they lost the award to Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore, who starred in "May December" together. (Vulture dubbed the loss a "stunning upset.")
Hoda and Jenna got a heads up about the ceremony when Yang appeared on the show back in March, with the actor hinting at a potential win for the duo.
At one point during the interview, the “Wicked” star asked if the co-hosts were available on June 15, and Jenna bluntly asked, “Well, are we going to win?”
“Guys, this is how award shows work,” Yang explained. “If people know they’re winning, then they will come.”
Jenna chimed in again, adding, “Well that’s true, because we’ve never been to the Daytime Emmys.”
The Las Culturistas Culture Awards featured several celebrities, including “Hacks” star Hannah Einbinder, comedian Heather McMahan, Julia Fox and Mandy Moore, who was honored with the first ever Lifetime of Culture Award.
The award show featured dozens of additional categories and awards including, Most Beautiful Name for a Daughter You Haven’t Even Thought of Yet, How Dare You Award for Betrayal, Best Word to Scream, Julia Fox Award for Overall Excellence, Zendaya Award for First Name That Doesn’t Need a Last Name and more.
In the days leading up to the show, Yang and Rogers had an opportunity to present Seth Meyers with the Best Vibe, Hands Down award during an appearance on “Late Night With Seth Meyers.”
However, that same day, both Meyers and Jon Hamm found out backstage that they lost the Father Award to Ryan Gosling.
What is Las Culturistas?
