Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager Announce Special Christmas Project With Meghan Trainor
Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager shared some exciting news on the Sept. 17 episode of Today, revealing a special Christmas present that fans can look forward to.
Kotb accidentally jumped the gun a little, sharing the news on an early hour of Today before joining Bush Hager on Today with Hoda & Jenna.
She excitedly told Sheinelle Jones, Savannah Guthrie and Dylan Dreyer, "We actually are at work on our second Christmas song...We’re going to drop our second single."
Kotb went even further, teasing that the song they are "considering" was written by Meghan Trainor, who also wrote and performed Hoda & Jenna's new theme song.
When Kotb finally joined Bush Hager on their show later that day, Bush Hager teased the mom of two, saying, "You dropped a secret of ours, in the earlier hours, and I feel deceived."
Her co-host explained that she heard that Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake were going to release a Christmas song and "couldn't help" but share the news, saying, " I did not like to hear about other people having a Christmas song, and I wanted them to know that we too are working on one...Sorry."
Last Christmas, the duo released their first Christmas song called "Carefree Christmas," recorded with singer Cheryl Porter. The group also shared a music video for the tune, which fans absolutely loved.
Kotb and Bush Hager praised Porter, a trained opera singer and vocal coach. They said on Today at the time, "Cheryl is a person who can teach anyone to sing...She's amazing. She is like joy personified. She ran us through the paces, had us try to learn."
They credited her with making the song what it was, claiming, "Without Cheryl, our song would sound a lot worse. Not only did she help us, but she sang a lot of it."
There is no word on if Porter will be a part of the Today hosts' second Christmas song.
