Holland Taylor Defends Her 2024 Emmys Look After TikToker Criticizes Her Brooches: ‘Bought by My Mother’

Content creator Nicky Campbell has since taken back what he said about the actress' outfit

Holland Taylor is happy to be wearing her brooches, thank you very much.

Following the 2024 Emmy Awards on Sept. 15, the Two and a Half Men alum found herself responding to criticism of her red carpet look from one particular influencer.

“I really don’t like when people have brooches on both sides of the lapel. Keep it asymmetrical,” TikToker Nicky Campbell said of Taylor's accessories in a video shared to Instagram and TikTok on Sept. 16.

The actress — who was nominated for outstanding supporting actress in a drama series for The Morning Show — responded to Campbell’s opinion with class.

“I generally am right with you on your takes, but do want to say that while I agree with you re: wearing a brooch — clips — which is what I wore on my suit, are usually worn as a pair at either side of a wide neckline of a gown, or a boat neck or on strong lapels. Mine are paste pieces, bought by my mother, barely twenty. An insane extravagance at about $37 — $800 in today’s money. Some paste is astonishingly good.”

The term “paste” is used to describe jewelry crafted from flint glass that has been made to imitate the look of gemstones.

Upon seeing Taylor’s explanation, Campbell posted on his Instagram Stories, “Eating my words! The double — clips — are approved.”

Taylor wasn't the only star who responded to Campbell's comments.

Lisa Ann Walter, who wore a white gown with silky chartreuse fabric wrapped around the silhouette, joked that it was "an honor to be groaned at" when all her look got was an "Ugh."

"I don’t always hit, but I felt gorgeous in this. And for a woman my age who doesn’t want to [go on] Ozempic or starve to still look this fierce… I served. He’s delightful though. Maybe if I put on another 20 pounds, he’d be more generous."

Taylor attended the Emmys with girlfriend Sarah Paulson by her side. The two began dating in 2015.

Complementing her partner’s monochromatic Louis Vuitton look, Paulson, 49, wore a royal blue Prada column dress with a black mini train and white bow on the back. She also wore pointed-toe white heels.

The American Horror Story star shared a sweet photo of the two posing for the cameras to Instagram.

“Celebrating my one and only and her wonderful performance on @themorningshow,” she wrote. Paulson had her own achievement to celebrate as she was nominated for outstanding guest actress in a drama series for Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
