Home run derby national anthem singer going to rehab after 'drunk' performance but was it the worst rendition? Watch

The 2024 MLB Home Run Derby, the annual home run hitting competition, took place on Monday. What has the internet talking however, isn't the results of the sporting event, rather a peculiar rendition of the national anthem from Nashville singer-songwriter, Ingrid Andress.

On Monday night, the four-time Grammy nominee took Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas to perform the "The Star-Spangled Banner." Shortly after, the performance went viral online, sparking criticisms and earning her a spot on the notorious list of worst national anthem performances.

On Tuesday, Andress admitted to being drunk during the performance and said she will be checking herself into a rehabilitation facility.

One take: Ingrid Andress flubbed the national anthem. She deserves grace, not incivility and abuse

"That was not me last night. I apologize," said Andress on Instagram. "I apologize to MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition."

Ingrid Andress' national anthem performance draws comparisons to Fergie at the NBA All-Star Game

After Monday night, the internet has unanimously de-crowned Fergie as the queen of "Worst National Anthem rendition" and named Andress the new reigning champion.

Back In 2018, Fergie delivered an interesting rendition of the national anthem at the 2018 NBA All-Star game, leaving many players, attendees and spectators around the country both confused and horrified. The event quickly set social media ablaze with memes.

On June 15, history repeated itself.

"Fergie can finally rest," said one user on X.

Other's pointed out how MLB players weren't able to stifle giggles. Alec Bohm, third baseman for the Philadelphia Phillies, was captured on camera trying to contain his laughter during Andress' performance.

"Fergie seeing this now means she's free to leave her house again," said one user on YouTube. "Welcome back to society girl."
