Honorees announced for 2024 class of Sacramento Walk of Stars
(FOX40.COM) — The Sacramento Walk of Stars announced the 2024 class of honorees on Tuesday.
The 2024 lineup consist of actor Colin Hanks, philosopher and political activist Dr. Cornel West, NBA champion Bill Cartwright and actress Merrin Dungey.
Each individual will be honored with a star that will be permanently installed in the Handle District in Midtown Sacramento. The Handle District is the business district within the boundaries of 18th Street, 19th Street, L Street and Capitol Avenue.
According to its website, the Sacramento Walk of Stars honors the accomplishments of entertainers, athletes, and other public figures who have ties to the Sacramento area.
Celebrities born in Sacramento
“We are profoundly honored to celebrate such outstanding talents, each of whom has elevated their fields and positively influence countless lives,” Sacramento Walk of Stars founder Scot Crocker said in a statement. “Their remarkable achievements not only highlight the cultural richness of Sacramento but also inspire future generations to strive for greatness.”
Hanks, who is Tom Hanks’ son, was born in Sacramento and has played various roles in numerous films and television shows including “Orange County” and “Fargo.”
West, an author and former professor at Harvard and Princeton, grew up in Sacramento and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School.
Cartwright, who is an Elk Grove High alum, won three NBA championships during the Chicago Bulls dynasty in the early 1990s.
MLB 2024 season: Active players who have ties to the Sacramento area
Dungey, an alum of Rio Americano High School, has played various roles on TV shows such as “Alias,” “The King of Queens,” and “Big Little Lies.”
The 2024 class will be honored with a star installation ceremony on Sept. 18 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on L Street between 18th and 19th streets.
A gala celebration will follow later that night at the Memorial Auditorium.
Past Sacramento Walk of Stars honorees include LeVar Burton, Ruthie Bolton, Nicholas Sparks, Dusty Baker and Urijah Faber.
