New 'House of Cards' trailer is all about President Claire Underwood: 'The reign of the middle-aged white man is over'
The last House of Cards Season 6 preview showed a defiant Claire Underwood (Robin Wright) standing before the grave of her dearly departed husband, Frank Underwood (the not-so-dearly-ousted Kevin Spacey, who exited the show following allegations of sexual misconduct). But lest anyone remain doubtful that F.U. is truly dead, here’s a new, super-sized trailer showing the fictional former president’s funeral and Claire’s confirmation that her estranged spouse is long gone.
And while newly minted POTUS Claire is outwardly devastated, those are crocodile tears running down her mascara-streaked face.
“The reign of the middle-aged white man is over,” she crows, celebrating her rise to power with new cast member (and potential VP?) Diane Lane.
“This is my house,” she says later in the minute-long trailer for the Netflix drama’s sixth and final season, while another clip sees the power blonde insisting that she’s “not going to be told what to do anymore.”

But just because it’s now Claire’s show doesn’t mean the demons of the past won’t come creeping back. Greg Kinnear joins the show as a shady character with links to Frank Underwood (and brother to Lane’s character), former White House Chief of Staff Linda Vasquez (Sakina Jaffrey) is making trouble, and there’s a chilling cameo from Doug Stamper (Michael Kelly), who was last seen ’fessing up to the murder of Zoe Barnes to spare Frank.
And we don’t need ominous shots of shovels and burning bodies to sense that more danger is afoot.
To quote journalist and Underwood truther Tom Hammerschmidt (Boris McGiver): “The bodies are adding up.”
Viewers would expect nothing less.
House of Cards Season 6 kicks off Nov. 2 on Netflix.
