Huey Lewis is set to star in a fictionalized version of his life in development at Fox, titled Whatever Happened to Huey Lewis. The singer will also executive produce the single-camera, half-hour comedy, which is described as a Curb Your Enthusiasm-style show.
According to Deadline, the project is set to be co-produced by Lewis’ longtime friend Jimmy Kimmel. It will be written by Kirker Butler (Only Murders in the Building), who will also serve as executive producer.
In 2018, Lewis revealed that he had begun to lose his hearing due to Ménière’s disease. What Happened to Huey Lewis is described as a lighthearted take on this current phase of his life, dotted by “his codependent family and eccentric celebrity friends.” This won’t be Lewis’ first foray into acting — he took on the role of Billy Flynn in Chicago in 2005 and reprised the role the following year. As for sitcom work, he held a recurring role on Hot in Cleveland, which ran for six seasons.
Earlier this year, a musical inspired by the Huey Lewis & the News discography, titled The Heart of Rock & Roll, opened on Broadway. Lewis also recently on The Story Behind the Song to discuss “I Want a New Drug.”
