Hugh Jackman fans are 'disappointed' he's friends with Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner

Hugh Jackman has always been a likable celebrity, but some fans are struggling with his friendship with Javanka.

It was quite a surprise to many that Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner were at the actor’s 50th birthday bash — and he was asked about it at Tuesday’s premiere of his latest movie, The Front Runner. Jackman made it clear that the pair, who work for her daddy/his daddy-in-law Donald Trump in the White House, aren’t bonded by their political beliefs, telling Variety, “I’ve known those guys for 15 years, and we don’t talk politics at birthday parties.”

Compared to other Hollywood stars, Jackman hasn’t been vocal about his political beliefs. Makes sense — the Australian star doesn’t vote in the U.S. anyway, despite being a longtime New Yorker. He did, however, support Trump’s opponent at a Broadway fundraiser for Hillary Clinton in 2016.

While Jackman and his wife, Deborra-lee Furness, have long been social with Javanka — they share a mutual friend, Wendi Deng, the ex-wife of Rupert Murdoch, and Nicole Kidman is also part of this social circle — Twitter has found the news unsettling. So unsettling for one fan that her thirst for Jackman has evaporated.

However, others are supportive of the friendship and say the friends should be praised for staying tight despite their political differences.

The Front Runner is being called his most political film to date. It’s about Democratic Sen. Gary Hart’s ill-fated 1988 presidential campaign. Jackman plays Hart, and the film also stars Vera Farmiga and J.K. Simmons. It will be in theaters on Nov. 21.
