Husband and Wife Become Millionaires in Dramatic Fashion on ‘The Wall’

In an incredible turn of events on NBC’s The Wall Tuesday, contestant couple Matt and Jean went from $109 to more than $1.4 million in a matter of seconds. It was a roller-coaster ride, as they’d built up over $500,000. But the wall fought back.

With more than $500,000 in the bank, Matt, who was in isolation and had no idea what was happening onstage, failed to correctly identify a Bible quote. This meant an opportunity to lose money, which they did, all the way down to $109. But that loss turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

With nothing left to lose, Jean tripled up and put all three balls in the No. 6 slot. A few seconds after the balls dropped, she and Matt were millionaires. But that’s not where the story ends. Matt was backstage and was offered a contract for more than $85,000 guaranteed, or he could take whatever Jean had totaled onstage.

Jean kept her cool as Matt told her he’d ripped up the contract. When she finally told him how much they’d won, needless to say, everybody onstage was anything but cool at that point.
