Ice T Gives Bold Response to ‘SVU’ Fan Accusing the Show of Going ‘Woke’
Ice T had a mighty strong response for one fan of his procedural, Law & Order SVU, after suggesting that the long-running procedural had gone too "woke" over the years.
The comment came on Tuesday, Aug. 27, in response to a photo from sent that the actor had posted much earlier in the month that showed a long line of production trailers parked on the side of the road, writing, "Seems like everyone is at the OLYMPICS…. I’m at Work. SVU on location. Season26."
"Did they write SVU back to normal yet?" one person responded, adding, "It started to go woke."
The rapper was unbothered by the criticism, though, quoting the tweet and asking, "What the F is Woke?" before immediately clarifying that he didn't actually care about their response.
By the fan's description, the term arose in 2021, under Biden's administration, though they didn't give a real definition as to what they meant by the term, instead of listing off several vague examples that appeared to allude to the Black Lives Matter movement, LGBTQIA+ rights, and more.
However, according to ABC News, the term dates back as far as the early 1900s, "coined by progressive Black Americans" to describe people who are "informed, educated and conscious of social injustice and racial inequality."
They also didn't specify what it is about the fan-favorite series they feel has changed, but after nearly 25 years on the air, it's undoubtedly gone through several shifts in perspective and, in some cases, adopted more sensitive terminology.
