Iconic rock band Chicago to play Grand Rapids for first time since 2016
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Longtime band Chicago will return to West Michigan later this year.
Organizers announced Monday morning that Chicago will perform at DeVos Performance Hall in Grand Rapids Nov. 17. Tickets for the show will go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday through the band’s and the venue’s websites.
Chicago is one of the longest-running acts in rock history and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2016. Chicago is the first American rock band to have an album crack the Top 40 in sales in six consecutive decades.
Chicago visited Michigan last month, stopping at Pine Knob Music Theatre in Clarkston with Earth, Wind & Fire on the Heart & Soul Tour. The band hasn’t performed in West Michigan since a 2021 concert at FireKeepers Casino near Battle Creek. They haven’t played in Grand Rapids since a 2016 show at Van Andel Arena.
The band first formed in Chicago in 1967. They were originally known as the Chicago Transit Authority but shortened the name a year later. The founders described themselves as a “rock and roll band with horns,” blending traditional rock with several other sounds, including jazz, R&B and classical music.
The band released its 38th studio album, “Born For This Moment” in 2022.
