Ilana Glazer Says Being Pregnant Helped Them Realize They're Nonbinary
You know Ilana Glazer from the iconic 2010s Comedy Central sitcom Broad City.
You also might've recently seen them in the film Babes alongside Michelle Buteau. She also cowrote the film with Josh Rabinowitz.
On Instagram, Ilana currently lists their pronouns as "they/she." It's unclear when she made this change, but in an interview with USA Today earlier this year, they described how identifying as nonbinary is “what feels true to how [they] feel in [their] body.”
In a new interview with the Independent, Ilana went deeper into her identifying as nonbinary, and she also explained how her pregnancy clarified things for them.
In the interview, Ilana said that “being pregnant on paper was the most female thing I could ever do, but it actually highlighted both the masculine and feminine inside of me.”
“For so long, my masculinity felt like something I had to hide or make a joke of, and my femininity was something that felt like drag,” they explained.
“There was always this element of comedy to it that was limiting my genuine personal experience.”
Ilana went on to say that "the gift of being pregnant" helped her realize how to "be real with" themselves. When the publication asked how identifying as nonbinary has affected her general way of living, Ilana replied that it represents “more a point in the process of a long journey of self-actualization.”
“I’m moving through the world in a way that’s truer,” they added.
