‘Imaginary Mary’ Premiere Recap: Imaginary Friend, Real Relationships

Jenna Elfman‘s new show, Imaginary Mary, premiered Wednesday night. Elfman plays Alice, who developed an imaginary friend named Mary and some minor psychological issues while growing up in a dysfunctional family.

When Alice falls in love with a guy named Ben, who happens to have three kids, Mary returns to help Alice navigate the uncharted territory of dating a single dad. And things don’t go so smoothly.

The youngest one breaks Alice’s vintage Les Paul guitar. Alice is so flabbergasted by the initial meeting that she thinks her relationship with Ben is over. To Alice’s surprise, Ben returns the next day and they decided to try meeting with the kids again. The second time is the charm as Alice, Ben, and the three kids bond over a little karaoke to “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.”

Imaginary Mary airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
