The Impossible Heir Episodes 1 and 2 documented significant character developments and the three central characters’ relationships – Kang In-Ha, Han Tae-Oh, and Na Hye-Won. Both In-Ha and Tae-Oh cement their plan of entering into the conglomerate Kang Oh group. However, Na Hye-Won’s entry into their lives brings its form of tension. Although she and Tae-Oh like each other, they give up on forming a connection as they both need to gamble with In-Ha to reach the top. Meanwhile, In-Ha also falls for Hye-Won, and she accepts him for her reasons.

The Impossible Heir Episode 1: Lee Jae-Wook partners with Lee Jun-Young to reach the top

The first episode of The Impossible Heir established Han Tae-Oh and Kang In-Ha’s relationship. The former’s father, who is in prison, threatened to try to kill his mother again. Tae-Oh then helped his mother escape. After returning to his mother’s hometown, Tae-Oh crossed paths with illegitimate chaebol heir In-Ha. Although the two didn’t get along in the beginning, they ended up deciding to partner with each other. When Tae-Oh decided to play in the major leagues, he would also help In-Ha in taking over the conglomerate Kang-Oh group.

The scene shifted to the year 2013 when both maintain their friendship. They study at a prestigious university and Tae-Oh lives by doing odd part-time jobs. In the university, he came across Na Hye-Won, who flirted with him. Meanwhile, Kang-Oh group chairman Kang Jung-Mo was to appoint one of his two sons, Kang Seong-Ju and Kang In-Ju, as the director of the Future Strategy Office.

On the other hand, Tae-Oh went to meet his professor Choi Dong-Wuk, who was impressed with his report on the Kang-Oh group. Turns out that the teacher asked his students for a report on the future strategy of Kang-Oh group for him to help Kang Seong-Ju, and thereby plant a position for himself as the director of the Future Strategy Office. Tae-Oh then discovered that Jung-Mo was planning on handing over the reign of the group to one of his two sons.

When In-Ha met Tae-Oh in the cafeteria, the two saw Hye-Won eat at the cafeteria. After confirming that Tae-Oh had no interest in her, In-Ha expressed his interest in dating her. In-Ha further sent Tae-Oh to Bisunjae, the Kang Oh Group’s residence, to teach math to his step-sister Kang Hui-Ju. The latter expressed her interest in Tae-Oh, but he continued to avoid her. After returning home, Tae-Oh discovered that Hye-Won also had a past. Her mother continues to abuse her for money. He could relate to her experiences as his father also abused both him and his mother.

The following day, In-Ha’s stepmother Jang Geum-Seok called him. She made him sign an inheritance waiver agreement. But as per his plan with Tae-Oh, if he had to enter the group, he had to give it all the way. He signed the papers and left. At night, Tae-Oh and In-Ha planned to have dinner together when the latter met Hye-Won. He asked her to accompany them and she agreed. Initially, they planned to eat at Tae-Oh’s house. She even expressed her interest in Tae-Oh but he avoided her. They shifted to In-Ha’s house, where he stated his intentions of dating her. However, Hye-Won preferred for them to be friends.

Tae-Oh offered to take Hye-Won home. On their way back, the duo stopped for another round of drinks. They understood that both of them aimed to gamble with In-Ha being a golden spoon. However, Tae-Oh declared that they both go their own ways in achieving the same. Meanwhile, In-Ha came to Tae-Oh’s house and discovered that both his friends were neighbors.

The Impossible Heir Episode 2: Lee Jae-Wook chooses Lee Jun-Young over Hong Su-Zu

The second episode of The Impossible Heir began with Kang Oh Group’s family dinner. Hui-Ju suggested that they call In-Ha for their next family dinner. Although it was met with criticism, Jung-Mo expressed his desire to call his stepson for dinner. His wife Jang Geum-Seok wasn’t too fond of this decision, given that In-Ha is an illegitimate heir. However, Jung-Mo knew about her getting In-Ha to sign the inheritance waiver. He then called his son up and invited him for dinner. Meanwhile, Geum-Seok angrily asked him to throw away the signed papers.

Tae-Oh clarified that the only reason for Jung-Mo to call In-Ha over was to make Geum-Seok angry. This was because Geum-Seok made In-Ha sign the papers that Jung-Mo initially wanted to do. However, because she took the first step, it made Jung-Mo frustrated and take this call. Tae-Oh advised In-Ha to behave innocently but not be naive. Meanwhile, Seong-Jo met with Professor Choi Dong-Wuk, and the two dreamt of starting the Co-Prosperity Cooperation Center, as per Tae-Oh and In-Ha’s plan.

At night, In-Ha met Hui-Ju for dinner at a hotel, where they met Hye-Won, who worked as a waitress. Both Hui-Ju and Hye-Won got off on the wrong foot, and In-Ha apologized to the latter for his sister’s behavior. When he expressed his interest once again, Hye-Won mentioned that she doesn’t trust people. However, In-Ha promised to make her trust him. Hye-Won met Tae-Oh on her way back. But when she tried to initiate a conversation, he asked her to get some rest.

The following day, In-Ha joined the family for dinner. However, when his step-brother Kang In-Ju opposed his visit, Hui-Ju bit In-Ju and caused a ruckus. Geum-Seok then asked In-Ha to leave the residence as he was the cause of this issue. After he left, the house’s assistant informed Jung-Mo of the incident. When In-Ha told Tae-Oh of the incident, the latter assured him that everything was going as per their plan. The two could enter the conglomerate after the Co-Prosperity Cooperation Center is built.

Back at the conglomerate residence, Hui-Ju left the dinner table after blaming everyone for In-Ha’s absence. Geum-Seok followed her daughter, while Jung-Mo screamed at In-Ju for making In-Ha leave and disobeying his father. Later, Geum-Seok slapped Hui-Ju for her behavior, leading the latter to run away from home. She asks Tae-Oh to meet her, who eventually calls In-Ha. They met Hye-Won on the way. Eventually, In-Ha dropped both Tae-Oh and Hye-Won before leaving with Hui-Ju.

Tae-Oh also received a message from the conglomerate group that they were terminating his contract as a tutor for Hui-Ju. He then advised Hye-Won to plot her plan and attack, but she expressed waiting for the right time. The following day, Hui-Ju pretended to go to school and met Tae-Oh instead. To stop her from going any further, Tae-Oh insulted her, making her leave for good.

Hye-Won witnessed the incident and expressed to Tae-Oh that his actions were rude. She asked why he didn’t use Hui-Ju to enter the conglomerate. Tae-Oh, however, clarified that it would cross a line. Hye-Won noticed In-Ha had hidden himself behind the curtains, and left the scene. After Tae-Oh left, In-Ha grew more curious about Hye-Won.

At night, Hye-Won’s mother stole 50 million KRW from creditors. When they harassed Hye-Won at the university, asking for the stolen money back, Tae-Oh rescued her. Meanwhile, In-Ha received news of what happened with Hye-Won and went looking for her. At the same time, Tae-Oh also went back to Hye-Won. However, he saw In-Ha kissing Hye-Won and left the classroom.

At night, Tae-Oh confronted Hye-Won on the incident when the latter proceeded to live with In-Ha. Although Tae-Oh asked her to not leave him, Hye-Won expressed that there was no other way for her to leave her low life other than to pursue In-Ha. When Tae-Oh reached home, she changed her mind and banged on his door. However, Tae-Oh ended up choosing In-Ha and their plan of climbing up the societal ladder instead of Hye-Won.

At the end of the episode, the scene shifted to five years later. On the day of the Co-Prosperity Cooperation Center’s inauguration, both In-Ha and Tae-Oh made their way into the conglomerate.
