‘Inside Out 2’ Sets Disney+ Premiere Date
Pixar’s Inside Out 2 is set to begin streaming on Disney+ on September 25, the studio announced via its social media channels on Thursday.
The film hits streaming following an astonishing theatrical debut in June, which has made it the highest-grossing film of the year at over $1.6 billion worldwide. Marking the feature directorial debut of Kelsey Mann, the sequel has also broken records to become the highest-grossing animated film of all time, as well as the eighth highest-grossing film of all time, and the first animated feature to gross over $1 billion overseas.

The coming-of-age film follows up Inside Out, Pixar’s 2015 Oscar winner directed by Pete Docter, which won hearts with its depiction of a young girl named Riley and the complex emotions she faces, all of which are brought to life on screen. The sequel finds Riley entering puberty and experiencing brand new, more complex emotions as a result. As Riley tries to adapt to her teenage years, her old emotions try to adapt to the possibility of being replaced.
Cast members reprising their roles as the emotions within Riley included Amy Poehler as Joy, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, and Lewis Black as Anger. Diane Lane and Kyle MacLachlan reprised their parts as Riley’s parents, with Maya Hawke, Kensington Tallman, Tony Hale, Liza Lapira, Ayo Edebiri, Lilimar, Grace Lu, Sumayyah Nuriddin-Green, Adèle Exarchopoulos, and Paul Walter Hauser marking new additions to the cast.
Meg LeFauve and Dave Holstein penned the script, with Mark Nielsen producing the pic, which should be a major awards contender this season.
