Is Inside Out 2 streaming?
In 2015, Pixar’s Inside Out introduced viewers to the inner life of a young girl named Riley Anderson as embodied by her emotions: Joy, Sadness, Fear, Anger, and Disgust. It was a massive hit with audiences and critics alike, and earned $858.8 million worldwide. Nine years later, Pixar is in bad need of another hit, especially since the studio’s last blockbuster was Toy Story 4 in 2019.
For the sequel, Amy Poehler is reprising her voice role as Joy, with Phyllis Smith as Sadness, Lewis Black as Anger, Diane Lane as Mrs. Anderson, and Kyle MacLachlan as Mr. Anderson. Tony Hale and Liza Lapira are stepping into the roles of Fear and Disgust, respectively replacing Bill Hader and Mindy Kaling. New cast members include Ayo Edebiri as Envy, Adèle Exarchopoulos as Ennui, Paul Walter Hauser as Embarrassment, and Kensington Tallman as Riley, who was previously voiced by Kaitlyn Dias.
Now it’s time to answer the question that brought you here, and we’ll tell you if Inside Out 2 is streaming.
Is Inside Out 2 streaming?
No. The entire reason why Pixar has struggled at the box office in the last few years is that Disney put too many Pixar originals on Disney+ without giving them a theatrical release. That trained audiences to stay home, rather than rush out to see new Pixar movies in theaters. Last year’s Pixar release, Elemental, had a lackluster opening weekend. However, Elemental proved to have legs at the box office and it became a solid performer by the time its theatrical run was over.
But to get Pixar out of its slump, Disney needs something more than just a solid performer. And early indications are that Inside Out 2 will live up to those sky-high expectations. The latest projections have Inside Out 2 making an $85 million debut, which would give it the biggest opening of 2024. If the film can meet or exceed that number, then it would go a long way toward reversing Pixar’s fortunes.
When will Inside Out 2 be available to stream?
Disney has recently been extending the theatrical window between a film’s premiere and its streaming debut on Disney+. This is especially true for box office hits, as Disney wants those movies to play in theaters as long as possible before getting Blu-ray and 4K physical releases.
That will likely mean that Inside Out 2 won’t be streaming until this fall, presumably in either September or October. It’s possible that Inside Out 2 could be held back as late as November, but Disney+ has a much lighter schedule now that the production budget for streaming originals has been slashed. In other words, Disney+ needs streaming hits just as much as the studio’s theatrical wing needs blockbusters. Fortunately, Inside Out 2 will likely be a big streaming performer once Disney+ finally adds it to the library.
