Selena Gomez is well-known for her acting, singing, entrepreneurship, and advocacy. But throughout her career, the megastar has also paved an impressive path in real estate. At 19 years old, the Texas native purchased her first home in California for over $2 million. Since then, she’s put down roots in the celebrity-loved area of Calabasas, purchased a massive mansion in her home state, and scooped up the custom-built house of music legend Tom Petty. These days, the Only Murders in the Building star lives with her grandparents and is often seen hanging out at her boyfriend Benny Blanco’s playful L.A. pad. Below, learn more about her real estate history and where she resides now.
2011: Gomez Buys Her First Home for Over $2 Million
About a year before Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place came to an end in 2012, Gomez purchased her first home for $2.175 million at 19 years old. Located in Tarzana, California, the traditional-style home with a white exterior had six bedrooms and nine bathrooms. Gomez remodeled and expanded the home to encompass a total of 6,630 square feet. With many enviable features—a high-ceiling entryway, bay windows, media room, outdoor pool, spa, and separate guest house—it’s easy to see why the gated property was favored by other famous folk. Before Gomez took ownership, Jonah Hill reportedly resided there. In 2014, Gomez sold it to Iggy Azalea for a cool $3.45 million.
2014: Gomez Scoops Up a $3.69 Million Calabasas Estate
Gomez then relocated to Calabasas where she bought a $3.69 million, Mediterranean-style residence. The property was a major upgrade from her previous pad despite its lower count of five bedrooms and six bathrooms. It came with many covetable elements, including five fireplaces, a gym, a movie theater, a full bar, and an underground wine cellar. The features were equally lavish outside thanks to a courtyard, pool, spa, cabana, brick pizza oven, and fun elephant-shaped topiary. She eventually sold the property to French Montana for $3.3 million in 2016. That was more than $1 million under her initial asking price of $4.5 million when she first listed the home in 2015.
2015: Gomez Purchases a 10,000-Square-Foot Mansion in Texas
After establishing herself in the L.A. real estate scene, Gomez returned to her Texas roots with the purchase of an over 10,000-square-foot mansion. Located in Fort Worth—and not far from her childhood home in Grand Prairie—the house sat on just over one and a half acres. According to Maison Global, Gomez bought the property through a private trust linked to her business manager and private records didn’t disclose what she paid for the five-bedroom, six-and-a-half-bathroom residence.
Built in 2005, the house’s main floor featured high ceilings, a grand stone fireplace in the living room, stone tile flooring, and a statement wood staircase near a full wet bar off the entrance. Fun amenities—a game room, an eight-seat movie theater, a pool with a waterslide, and a tennis/basketball court—made it an avid host’s dream. But Gomez didn’t intend to hang onto the place for long. By 2016, she put it on the market for just under $3.5 million. After struggling to offload it despite listing and lowering the price a few times, she finally sold it for $2.7 million in 2018.
2017: Gomez Secures a Nearly $2.25 Million Bungalow in Studio City
In 2017, Gomez secured a charming 1950s cottage in L.A.’s Studio City neighborhood for $2.249 million. Situated behind tall hedges, the private home boasted a column-lined porch with a white exterior. Spanning about 3,400 square feet, the single-story house had a chef’s kitchen with skylights, a dining room with two sets of French doors, and an office with a corner fireplace. The main floor had herringbone brick flooring, which was amplified by a generally neutral color palette with pops of color. Naturally, the property included a pool, spa, patio, lawn, and a guest house with a living room and yoga studio. The singer sold the place for $2.37 million in 2020.
2020: Gomez Invests in an Encino Property for $4.9 Million
A few months after Gomez announced her brand Rare Beauty, the founder bought the former home of late singer Tom Petty for $4.9 million. Petty and his wife Jane Benyo custom-built the Encino property in 1989. At more than 11,000 square feet, the house includes six bedrooms and 10 bathrooms. Inside, there’s a dramatic curved staircase, vaulted ceilings, a recording studio, a gym, a massage room, and a wine cellar. Of course, no grand California home is complete without a sizable outdoor pool. Gomez currently resides in this home with her grandparents.
“I live with my grandparents, so we are always in the kitchen, always cooking, and we have leftovers,” she revealed in a 2023 video. Apart from spending time here, Gomez has also been known to frequent her boyfriend Benny Blanco’s L.A. house that's filled with colorful, fun furnishings and art.
