"Actual Comedies Deserve Better": The Internet Is Outraged That "The Bear" Is Taking Home Emmy Awards That Could Have Gone To Comedians

The Emmy Awards are finally here, and you know what that means: outrage over The Bear being categorized as a comedy series.

Of course, this is nothing new. When the Emmy nominations first dropped, people were upset that The Bear is continually labeled a comedy. The same reaction occurs when the SAG Award and Golden Globes noms drop as well, since The Bear is categorized the same way for all the award shows. But I've watched the series myself and definitely agree that it's a drama.

Hosts Eugene and Dan Levy made a joke about exactly this at the start of the show.

Well, after Jeremy Allen White beat out comedy legends like Steve Martin and Martin Short for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series, social media flooded with criticism, which only continued as Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Liza Colón-Zayas won their categories early in the night.

To be clear, the general consensus online was that Jeremy and his costars gave phenomenal performances that deserve to be recognized. Folks just wish the show was placed in the drama category so comedians could get their flowers, too!

It's worth noting that Hacks did end up winning Outstanding Comedy Series in the end.
