Isla Fisher Reportedly Tried To Be the ‘Perfect Wife’ for Sacha Baron Cohen Ahead of Divorce
Isla Fisher and Sacha Baron Cohen were stealthy about their divorce, announcing their split in April 2024, when they had filed for divorce the year before in September 2023. Their joint statement showed a unified front with a twist — they used a cute tennis analogy.
“After a long tennis match lasting over twenty years, we are finally putting our racquets down,” the statement read on their Instagram. “In 2023 we jointly filed to end our marriage. We have always prioritized our privacy and have been quietly working through this change.” The former couple has kept the drama out of the headlines for the sake of their three children, but an In Touch insider is whispering what life was like for Fisher during her 13-year marriage to the 52-year-old comedian.

“Isla tried so hard, for so long, to be the perfect wife and really put all her needs to the side to make him happy,” the source claimed. “Before she split with Sacha she had the weight of the world on her shoulders but that’s all lifted and she’s back to the joyful woman people knew her to be before she got dragged down by Sacha and all his bad moods.” It sounds like the marriage was hard for her behind closed doors even though they also presented a loving front on the red carpet.
Fisher seemed to hint that it wasn’t the most romantic relationship during a February 2024 appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show ahead of their divorce announcement. She discussed the lack of Valentine’s Day traditions in her household. “I wouldn’t say we’re particularly … I think just having a lot of kids and being busy, we don’t do a lot,” she shared. “But every year Sacha does give me a card that’s like, ‘Happy Valentine’s from’ and then there’s a massive question mark. As if I have any other Valentine?” She said it in jest, but the story seemed tinged with sadness.
Life seems to have turned around now for the 48-year-old Wedding Crashers star — she’s putting herself first. “It’s the first summer she’s felt truly carefree and happy in longer than anyone can remember. She’s letting her hair down, catching up with old friends, and hitting the party scene,” the In Touch source revealed. It might be the perfect recipe for mending a broken heart and getting excited for the future with “everyone happy to see her finally enjoying herself again.”
