Jack Black jokingly campaigns outside White House for Tenacious D in 2020 — and stirs up Trump supporters
Jack Black has been clear about his opinion of President Trump — he called him a “piece of s***” during his Hollywood Walk of Fame speech — and this week he appeared outside the White House to “campaign” for his job.
@tenaciousd 2020! Bring back the USA 🇺🇸

In Washington, D.C., for a Tenacious D show, he and his partner in comedy rock, Kyle Gass, showed up outside 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue with matching ‘Merica wardrobes — Uncle Sam hats and USA sweatshirts — as well their guitars. “@tenaciousd 2020!” he wrote. “Bring back the USA,” which is a lyric from their 2006 song “The Government Totally Sucks.”

The singers, who have been political since their early days (see: 2001’s “City Hall”), are virtually unrecognizable — even at first glance on the band’s official Instagram — so the comments were pretty funny. “Who are these clowns? Oh, wait it’s Jack Black,” wrote one. “Is that … Bill Murray?” posted another. George R. R. Martin and “Amber Tamblyn’s husband,” David Cross, were rattled off as other look-alikes. But the chatter quickly turned political and got nasty. While there were many fans who loved their goof (“I want your babies AND I’M A DUDE”) — and a ton who promised they’d even vote for them if it actually happened (“As long as you wear your Nacho Libre outfit!!”) — it wasn’t soon before stirred-up Trump supporters started spamming the comments.
Here are some of the comments:
“The USA never left. You just have to get your head out of Obama’s ass.”
“Give your opinions a rest and shut the f*** up for free.”
“Stick to entertainment.”
“Jack the USA never left. Just a reminder my dude the trumps only been in office for 2 years so everything that’s wrong with the country that you think is wrong with the country it’s just stuff handed over from Obama … I know you’re trying to push your album homie but don’t be f***ing stupid.”
“The USA is in good hands with Trump.”
“Can you just do what you do and not be political. Sick of hearing from you on social media.”
“You don’t have to bring it back. President Trump already did! You can relax while we little people enjoy plenty of jobs and record high 401k’s.”
“Just be funny and rock out. Don’t be so one sided. I’m a fan and not that political. This just makes you bad.”
“Trump 2020!!! Have celebrities not learned their lesson?! Your campaigning isn’t helping your candidates. You may as well be campaigning for Trump. And for that I Thank You. I Love ya Jack but please stay out of Politics.”
“Just entertain and enough with the politics. You are like all these Hollywood folk that think because you have a stage you can influence politics. Just stop it and do what you are good at … entertainment!!!”
But the D fans were protective of their faves — and defended the performers from the criticism. Here were some of their responses:
“They’ve been political since the inception of tenacious D. Give your ignorance a rest.”
“They get popular through their music and use that popularity to voice their opinion. Nothing wrong w that.”
“Keep on Rocking @jackblack nobody cares about the sheep’s crying about your politics. Go Blue.”
“You should boycott them and only listen to Ted Nugent. That’ll show ’em.”
“I dont care how left he is he is one of my favorites.”
“The D can do whatever the f*** they want, buddy.”
“No matter their views on politics. Everyone can agree that these guys love america and thats all that matters to me.”
“Hey, what are people really complaining about? Two dudes dress up in all patriotic red white and blue saying bring back the USA, what’s wrong with that?”
People can say — or spam — all they want, but Tenacious D’s performance in D.C. appeared to be a big success. And we love the video below because it reminds of the “Government Sucks” lyrics: ‘Cause the land of love and freedom / Is just a baby’s breath away / And if we hold hands together / We can bring back the USA.”
