Jack Black and Pre-Teen Band Channel ‘School of Rock’ With Kick Ass Ozzy Osbourne Cover
Dewey Finn, is that you? On Tuesday, Tom Morello shared a video of Jack Black performing a cover of Ozzy Osbourne’s “Mr. Crowley,” while backed by a band of pre-teens that included Morello’s own son Roman. The performance was in celebration of Morello’s mother Mary’s 100th birthday party.
“Mary Morello’s 100th bday celebration featured a stirring rendition of @ozzyosbourne & #RandyRhoads “Mr. Crowley” performed by @jackblack and a kick ass band of 12 & 13 year olds!” the Rage Against the Machine guitarist wrote. “Mary was pleased!”

Along with Morello’s son Roman, Yoyoka was on the drums, Roya Feiz was on the bass, and Hugo Weiss was on the keys. “I’m ready! How do we start?” Black joked with the crowd before starting to sing the Blizzard of Ozz favorite. Each musician got their own solo, with Roman ripping it on guitar.
Morello’s mom had quite the 100th birthday celebration: two days beforehand, she joined the picket lines of hotel workers in Unite Here 11 and the day prior, she served food to the homeless on Skid Row in L.A, Morello shared on Instagram.
The performance from Black comes as he celebrated School of Rock turning 20 years old in an interview with Rolling Stone. “When we did the read-through, that’s when I felt it,” he said as part of an oral history of the film. “Table reads are always boring because movies are not meant to be read at a table, they’re meant to be seen on a big screen. But this was the first time where it just killed.”
“I was like, ‘Oh, my God, this is like a diamond. Every scene is clicking and the laughs are strong in the room.’ I could feel, right out of the gate, something special is happening,” he added.
