Jack Wagner Used to Pretend He 'Couldn't Remember' Heather Locklear's Name on “Melrose Place ”Set
'Melrose Place' alum Courtney Thorne-Smith recalled the memory of Wagner’s joke, which made her "laugh out loud"
Heather Locklear may have been a household name by the time she joined the cast of Melrose Place but one of her costars pretended they couldn’t recall her name.
On the first episode of iHeartRadio’s new Melrose Place rewatch podcast, Still the Place, Locklear’s former costars Courtney Thorne-Smith, Laura Leighton and Daphne Zuniga looked back on how Jack Wagner, who starred as Dr. Peter Burns on the series, pretended not to recognize the Dynasty alum.
"I've been thinking about all my Melrose memories, and so many things have been coming to mind," Thorne-Smith shared. "This came to me today, and made me laugh out loud. Do you remember how Jack Wagner — now, remember, Heather Locklear was the biggest star in the world at that time — how Jack Wagner always… pretended he couldn't remember Heather's name. 'Where's Helen? Is Helen here?'”
She added, “That made me laugh out loud this morning” and the other women noted that “sounds exactly like Jack” as they laughed at the memory.
Wagner, 64, and Locklear — who starred as Amanda — played love interests on Melrose Place, and years later found love off screen too. They began dating in 2007 and became engaged in August 2011, before calling things off that November.
The actor recently told PEOPLE he wasn’t writing off the idea of reprising the role of Dr. Peter Burns in the upcoming Melrose Place revival.
In the original show’s series finale, Peter (Wagner) and Amanda (Locklear) faked their deaths and tied the knot with Peter on a beach, possibly living “happily ever after.”

“You never really die on a soap, right?” he told PEOPLE in April. “How they unfold those two characters [Peter and Amanda], it'd be fantastic how they sort of tell that story. … That was a great finale to be included in, especially with Heather. If I'm asked to come back, I'd absolutely entertain that.”
As PEOPLE previously reported, the new series is set to follow some of the original neighbors and friends, who reunite after a death. According to a summary of the series, "The pressure cooker of a reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets… throwing our characters into chaotic drama that’s reminiscent of the past, but with a much more modern perspective.”
The original Melrose Place, which chronicled the lives and loves of the residents of the titular apartment complex, ran for seven seasons from 1992 to 1999, with a cast that included Wagner, Locklear, Leighton, Thorne-Smith, Zuniga, Andrew Shue, Thomas Calabro, Josie Bissett, Doug Savant, Rob Estes and Grant Show. It received five Golden Globe nominations, including best performance by an actress in a TV drama for Locklear and and best performance by an actress in a supporting role in a series, miniseries or TV movie for Leighton, 55.
