Jacksonville's Biggie's Pizza, Carmines Pie House make Yelp's Top 100 pizza places list

Looking to raise a slice to celebrate National Pizza Day on Wednesday?

A pair of Jacksonville restaurants are among the "all-time" Top 100 Places for Pizza in the U.S., according to Yelp, which publishes crowd-sourced reviews about businesses.

Biggie's Pizza, 311 3rd St. N. in Jacksonville Beach ranked No. 76. The pizzeria also has locations in the Riverside, Southside and Beach Haven areas of Jacksonville, as well as Ponte Vedra Beach.

Ranked at No. 80, was Carmines Pie House, 2677 Forbes St. in historic Riverside.

Yelp released the rankings Tuesday in time for National Pizza Day. Yelp in a news release said it "identified businesses in the pizza category, then ranked those spots using a number of factors including the total volume and ratings of reviews."

Five other Florida pizza joints also made Yelp's list:

  • No. 33 — Mangia & Bevi Pizzeria Napoletana in Cocoa Beach

  • No. 56 — Noble Crust in St. Petersburg

  • No. 63 — Eddie & Sam's New York Pizza in Tampa

  • No. 71 — CRUST in Miami

  • No. 96 — Cristino's Coal Oven Pizza in Clearwater

Yelp blogger Brenae Leary wrote on Tuesday that pizza is among the top five most searched items so far this year on Yelp.

Pizza variations are regularly a top trend for Yelp users. Last year, Detroit-style pizza was a must-order dish with review mentions up 52 percent, she wrote in the blog.

"In 2022, we expect blonde pizza, often referred to as white pizza, to reign supreme. Searches for the tomato-less pizza were up a whopping 953 percent," Leary blogged.
