With apologies to those whose work or life schedules don't allow for it, it's a three-day, Labor Day weekend for the rest of us, and we're planning to make the most of it, with baseball and football games, concerts and a car-eating robot on the slate.

Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp

7:05 p.m. Friday, 6:35 p.m. Saturday, 6:35 p.m. Sunday at 121 Financial Ballpark. $5-$38.

Let's hope the Shrimp's bats are as explosive as the skies will be this weekend. Jacksonville wraps up its second-to-last homestand of the season this weekend, welcoming the Norfolk Tides to town. Fireworks are planned at the end of all three games. Info: milb.com/jacksonville

High school football

Jacksonville doesn't have a major college football program, and the Jags don't start up until next weekend, but that doesn't mean there aren't good games going on. Times-Union sports writer Clayton Freeman picked out 20 must-see games of the 2024 season, and two of them are this weekend — Fleming Island at Riverside and Nease at Creekside.
