Jaguars, Slash and other fun things to do around Jacksonville this weekend
For some, 2024 actually starts Saturday, when the Jaguars take the field at EverBank Stadium for their first preseason game. They're playing the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, so it should be a good test, even if neither team has its best players on the field for very long. But that's hardly the only thing going on around the Jacksonville area this week. There's a reggae show in St. Augustine, a comedian downtown, a strongman competition in Fernandina Beach and Slash headlining a Sunday night blues concert.
SOJA
7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre Backyard Stage. $45-$50.
The St. Augustine Amphitheatre actually has two stages, the main stage where everyone from Paul Simon to Kane Brown has played, and the Backyard Stage, tucked back by the loading docks. That’s where Grammy-winning roots reggae band SOJA will play Friday night, with opening acts Algorhythm and Sensamotion. Info: theamp.com

Nick Di Paolo

Jaguars-Chiefs
7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at EverBank Stadium
The Jaguars open the preseason with the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs (no, Taylor Swift isn’t expected to attend and no, most of the good players won’t see much if any action). Ticket prices are all over the place since most of the seats are already sold but lots of resale tickets are available. Info: jaguars.com
S.E.R.P.E.N.T. Festival
5:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre. $40.50-$150.50
