Jake Gyllenhaal Says Playing Batman “Would Be An Honor”: “Those Roles Are Classic”
Jake Gyllenhaal is still interested in playing Batman on the big screen. The actor recently revealed that it “would be an honor” to portray the Dark Knight as it’s a classic role.
“Oh, man. That’s a classic. It’s an honor,” he said in an interview with Screen Rant while promoting his new movie Road House. “Speaking of playing roles that other incredible actors have played in the past, to me actually roles that other incredible actors have played in the past, which, to me, actually, when I think about it, I’m going to play Iago in Othello with Denzel Washington, and I think about like the history of actors that have played that role throughout time, and I’m intimidated by that.”

He continued, “So that’s the first level. That’s what I’m working on right now. But of course. It would be an honor always. Those types of things and those roles are classics.”
Gyllenhaal was one of the top choices to give life to Bruce Wayne in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy, in which Christian Bale ultimately landed the role of Batman.
Since taking over DC Studios, Peter Safran and James Gunn have announced a new project with Batman titled The Brave and the Bold. Casting has not started for the film, as Gunn has noted that no script has been completed yet.
After his initial comments about Batman went viral, he was asked about the buzz it had generated among fans.
“One interview… I knew it… Someone asked me and… Of course, I would be flattered. Anyone would be,” Gyllenhaal said in an interview with Extra about wanting to play Batman.
